Caring for our city, creating a future for all

Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They’re motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision

Be part of a purpose-led organisation with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

About the role

The Correspondence and Briefings Officer is a vital member of the Customer Service team at the City of Sydney, responsible for preparing accurate and timely responses to community inquiries on behalf of the Office of the Lord Mayor and the Office of the CEO. In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that all written materials are of high quality, consistent, and relevant, contributing to our commitment to leading, governing, and serving the community while working towards the Sustainable Sydney 2030-2050 vision.

You will play a crucial role in transforming complex information into clear, plain English responses that align with the City's Correspondence Style Guide. Your exceptional writing and editing skills, combined with your ability to manage competing priorities, will help deliver accurate information that meets the needs of our diverse community.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in communications or a related field, or practical experience as a writer, along with a high level of punctuation and grammar knowledge.
  • strong experience in preparing and coordinating correspondence for senior leadership, ensuring timely and accurate responses to the community.
  • excellent relationship-building skills to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders, developing a comprehensive understanding of key issues and initiatives affecting the City.
  • exceptional writing and editing abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, plain English communications that are easily understood.
