Be part of a purpose-led organisation with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

About the role

This role places you in the heart of the decision-making process of the City of Sydney. The role will play a leading role in managing two fast-paced Greens Councillors’ offices, including providing support for Council meetings, liaising with the community, correspondence and supporting community meetings.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can play a leading role in managing the two Greens Councillors’ offices.
  • Has demonstrated experience managing or providing high level administrative support to an office, campaign or complex project.
  • Has experience and/or strong interest and commitment to housing justice, environmental sustainability, human rights and social justice issues.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to manage a high volume of information. Experience in diary management or executive assistant roles beneficial.
  • Has demonstrated ability to work independently, including prioritising and escalating tasks effectively.
  • Has highly developed written and verbal communication skills. Experience preparing meeting minutes and/or providing secretariat support to a board or committee.
  • Has demonstrated experience liaising with residents or stakeholders. Experience preparing resident correspondence beneficial.
  • Is excited about working collaboratively in a small team, to support the Greens vision for a more equal and inclusive city.
  • Is available to work 3 days a week (though flexibility is considered for the right candidate)

Depending on interests, skills and experience, the role may also include policy and research work, and/or management of Greens Councillor communications including social media, newsletters, and websites.

About Councillor Sylvie Ellsmore and the Greens team

Sylvie is one of two Greens Councillors on the City of Sydney, alongside Councillor Matthew Thompson. Sylvie is the former Deputy Mayor, founding Chair of the Housing for All Advisory Panel, and current Deputy Chair of the Community Services and Facilities Committee.

The Greens work on the City of Sydney is particularly focused on housing justice, environmental sustainability, reducing economic and social inequality, and supporting local community groups to lead grassroots change.

This is a flexible role, working across the two Greens Councillor offices at Sydney Town Hall, with the Councillors and the two Council Support Officers (policy and media advisors) in the team. We’re putting together a diverse, complementary team. So even if you haven’t had experience with a similar role, we’d love to hear from you!

Please also refer to the Council Support Officer role being concurrently advertised, with the same close date.
